As part of our aim of making God known St Oswald’s financially and prayerfully supports the Diocese of York. All the money that parishes contribute to the Diocese goes into the Common Fund and this money is used for clergy stipends, pension and national insurance costs, as well as the provision of their housing; selection and training of clergy; meeting the legal obligations as a church; and the costs of sharing the support network of the diocese. That support network provides help with children and youth work, advice on looking after your church buildings, working with the media, safeguarding etc.
But our support goes beyond this. As part of a three-year strategy we are also financially and prayerfully supporting three other charities. Currently these are:
Barnabas Fund – Barnabas Fund works to provide hope and aid for the persecuted Church, from Christians, to Christians, through Christians.
SASH – SASH is a youth homelessness charity that works across York, North and East Yorkshire. Helping young people aged 16-25 who are facing homelessness.
The Mission To Seafarers – The Mission was set up to provide practical and emotional support and spiritual guidance when asked, to all seafarers regardless of nationality, faith or no faith, The Mission to Seafarers aims to provide as much help as possible to international seafarers through our representation at over 200 sea ports across 50 different countries.
Check out their websites to see how they too are making God known.
